this week I’m waiting on JACKABY by William Ritter (expected publication: 16th September 2014 by Algonquin Young Readers). It’s a YA Historical Fantasy set in 19th Century New England. The cover is gorgeous and the blurb sounds amazing. I can’t wait!

Waiting On Wednesday – 54

this week, I’m waiting on RADIANT by Karina Sumner-Smith (expected publication: 9th September 2014 by Talos). It’s a YA Fantasy and the first book in the TOWERS trilogy. I’ve “met” Karina on Twitter a while ago and I’ve wanted to read her book ever since!

Waiting On Wednesday – 53

Hello gentle reader,

today I’m waiting on BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE by Maggie Stiefvater (expected publication: 21st October 2014 by Scholastic Press). It’s a YA Fantasy book and the third book in the Raven Cycle which will comprise four books. I absolutely loved THE RAVEN BOYS and THE DREAM THIEVES, and I cannot wait to read this book. The Raven Cycle is one of the most unique YA Fantasy I’ve read, with amazing writing and characters. I’m really looking forward to finding out where Maggie Stiefvater takes us with this third installment!

Book of the Week – The Shatter Me Series

Hello gentle reader,

if you’re looking for a great YA trilogy to read this summer, I recommend the SHATTER ME series by Tahereh Mafi.

It’s a YA Sci-Fi series which was published between 2011 and 2014 by Harper Collins. It comprises three novels (SHATTER ME, UNRAVEL ME and IGNITE ME) from the main character’s point of view (Juliette) as well as two novellas (DESTROY ME from Warner’s POV and FRACTURE ME from Adam’s POV).

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

What makes this series quite unique is Juliette’s voice and Tahereh Mafi’s writing (with the now well-known crossed-out words and lines). The character development of Juliette is one of the most impressive I’ve read, and Warner remains one of the most complex characters you’ll be likely to read in a YA book. Even if there’s quite a lot of action (especially in Book 3), the characters’ journey and the love story are what these books are about. These books explores themes such as the line between good and evil, as well as what makes a person a hero or a villain.

This is an amazing series and I do hope you’ll pick it up this summer (all books are available as paperbacks, both in the US and overseas).

today I’m waiting on AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir (expected publication: 28th April 2015 by Penguin/Razorbill). It’s a YA High Fantasy debut whose world-building was inspired by Ancient Rome. Paramount Pictures has already bought the rights to the book (se details here). Doesn’t it sound great?

Waiting On Wednesday – 51

Hello gentle reader,

today I’m waiting on BETWEEN THE SPARK AND THE BURN by April Genevieve Tucholke (expected publication: 14th August 2014 by Dial). This will be the second and last book in the Between series. BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA was April’s debut, a YA Gothic Romance which I think is the perfect summer read!

today I’m waiting on UNDER A PAINTED SKY by Stacey Lee (expected publication: 17th March 2015 by Putnam Juvenile). It’s a YA Historical novel set on the Oregon Trail in 1849. I’ve ‘known’ Stacey online for a while, thanks to a pitch contest I entered last year. Her debut sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it!

Book of the Week – 26

A while ago I wrote a post about the books which successfully build a bridge between literary and genre fiction. The book I just finished reading belongs to this narrow category. It’s entitled NIGHT FILM and it was written by Marisha Pessl. It’s a literary thriller which was published in January 2013.

I had to wait 7 years for it, but it was definitely worth the wait. This book is amazing. Buy it or borrow it now, and read it as soon as possible.
